Série Deslimites

Unbounded Series

Na série Deslimites registro paisagens desprovidas de referências diretas ao mundo que conheço — ou talvez estejam guardadas no subconsciente, aguardando o momento de expandir.

Trabalho em várias obras simultaneamente: em uma, adiciono novas linhas; em outra, adiciono cores — ora clareando, ora escurecendo.

Em alguns momentos as linhas se tornam quase imperceptíveis; em outros, emergem intensas e até agressivas.

O horizonte elevado permite que a terra em sua literalidade referencial e cromática domine quase toda a superfície da obra.

Elas não representam lugares reais, mas territórios criados a partir da fusão de memórias, sonhos e abstrações: mundos inventados.

In the Unbounded series, I record landscapes devoid of direct references to the world I know—or perhaps they are stored in the subconscious, waiting for the moment to expand.

I work on several pieces simultaneously: in one, I add new lines; in another, I add colors—sometimes lightening, sometimes darkening.

At times the lines become almost imperceptible; at others, they emerge intense and even aggressive.

The elevated horizon allows the earth, in its literal, referential, and chromatic sense, to dominate almost the entire surface of the work.

They do not represent real places, but territories created from the fusion of memories, dreams, and abstractions: invented worlds.

Série Entre a Ventania o Mormaço e a Aragem

Between the Wind, the Haze, and the Breeze Series

Fui mexer nos guardados dos meus pais, suas fotos e objetos pessoais. Revi fotos da juventude, depois casados e com os filhos. Fiz sobreposições fotográficas delas com as fotos das minhas outras séries e inclui também a caligrafia do meu bisavô materno. Como resultado tive um apagamento, uma aragem, como se o tempo tivesse passado e deixado rastros de memória... imagens em sussurro. Para sobressair ainda mais a ação do tempo, imprimi no papel vegetal, onde a transparência deixa as imagens diáfanas, perdidas. Produzi efetivamente após me despedir de minha mãe, foi compulsivo, até o esvaziamento. As imagens estão no mundo agora, já não me pertencem mais.

I went through my parents' belongings, their photos and personal objects. I reviewed photos from their youth, then when they were married and with me and my siblings. I overlaid these photos with photos from my painting series and included my maternal great-grandfather's handwriting in this overlay. As a result, I had fading, a breeze, as if time had passed and left traces of memory… whispering images. To further emphasize the action of time, I printed this image on tracing paper, where the transparency leaves the images translucent, lost. I produced a lot after saying goodbye to my mother, it was compulsive, until I feel empty. The images are in the world now; they no longer belong to me.

Série À Margem do Asfalto

Out of Urbanization Series

Uma visita às comunidades da Rocinha e Vila Canoas no Rio de Janeiro me estimulou o desenvolvimento dessa série. Observei um agrupamento de construções desorganizadas, sem cálculo estrutural e o emaranhado dos fios nos postes davam um ar ainda mais caótico e confuso ao local. Esses fios entrelaçados e numerosos fizeram parte dos meus desenhos e pinturas, pois desde sempre a linha esteve em meus trabalhos. Percebi que a vida nessas vielas sinuosas e íngremes tinha o barulho das crianças brincando livres e distraídas. A interpretação dessa experiência me conduziu a uma pintura com cores festivas, imaginárias e casarios abstraídos, onde os fios e os postes quase sempre estão presentes.

A visit to the Rocinha and Vila Canoas neighbourhoods in Rio de Janeiro encouraged me to develop this series. Observing a cluster of disorganised buildings, without any structural calculation, and the tangled cables in the lamp posts gave an even more chaotic and baffled environment in this place. Those tangled and countless cables became part of my drawings and paintings, since the line has always been on my work. I have realised that life in those meandering and steep alleys had the noise of children playing free and distracted. The interpretation of this experience conducted me to a picture of festive, imaginary colours, and abstracted housing, where the cables and lamp posts are almost always present.

Série Fios/Desfios

Thread/shred series

No chão! Galhos, ramos de samambaias, folhas secas, etc, tudo no chão!

Fotografei, sobrepus, cortei, imprimi. Coloquei anteparos, véus, que me remeteram a memórias de outonos e sonhos vividos (ou não vividos).

Surgiu a necessidade de desenhar e pintar esse material em decomposição e ao mesmo tempo de uma beleza transcendente.

O nanquim veio dar vida a essas primeiras impressões. Só preto e Branco, só aguado e seco. Apenas a simplicidade, o silencio entre os brancos do papel.

As possibilidades foram infinitas: um outro olhar, conexões, uma cor mais forte, uma linha fugaz, uma textura...

Saí do papel e fui para a tela: galhos e fios surgiram e se emaranharam.

Depois, a cor se fez presente.

Os fios soltos, as folhas secas, galhos com musgo, as transparências, o ver e não ver, tudo me estimulou a múltiplos olhares e experimentações.

Faço, desfaço, repenso. O gesto é importante, muitas vezes o gesto é casual. Outras vezes com direções assertivas, propositais e pensadas.

On the ground! Twigs, fern branches, dry leaves, etc. Everything on the floor!

I have photographed, cropped, printed. Set up bulkheads, veils that remount to autumnal memories and lived dreams (or not). Then came the urge to draw and paint this decomposing matter, and, at the same time, of a transcendent beauty.

Ink came to give life to these first impressions. Only black and white, watery and dry. Only simplicity, the silence between the whites in the paper.

There were endless possibilities: another gaze, connections, a stronger color, a fleeting line, a texture...

I left the paper behind and headed to the canvass: twigs and strings appeared and got entangled.

After, color appeared.

The loose strings, the dry leaves, the musky twigs, the transparencies, the seen and not seem, they all stimulated me to multiple views and experimentations.

Série Cana-de-Açúcar

Sugar Cane Series

As cores contidas num gomo de cana ressecado me conduziram a uma pesquisa que durou vinte anos e gerou a série “Cana-de-Açúcar”. Fui da figuração à abstração. Trabalhei com grandes e pequenas dimensões e nas mais variadas técnicas. Transpus nas telas o que esses gomos me transmitiam. Eles transformaram-se em linhas verticais e os nós em linhas horizontais. Essas linhas em alguns momentos ficaram soltas no espaço da tela, dançavam e faziam lembrar corpos e outras vezes ficaram entretidas em seus acúmulos.

The colours contained in a dried cane stem conducted me for a research that lasted for twenty years and generated the series “sugar cane”. I went from figuring to abstraction. I worked on large and small dimensions and in most varieties of techniques. I conveyed onto the screen what these stems meant to me. They were transformed into virtual lines and the knots in horizontal lines. These lines in some moments became loose on the screen space, danced and made us to remind bodies. Other times they were head-offs and dilacerated in their cumulative and coloured rhythms.
